GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NC Governor Josh Stein celebrated last week’s signing of the Lumbee Fairness Act, which grants full federal recognition to the Lumbee Tribe and provides access to federal benefits such as health care, education, housing, and disaster relief in southeastern North Carolina.  Public Radio East
  • The insurance commissioner will hold a spring hearing on the proposed dwelling insurance rate hike to examine potential changes for local policyholders. Officials said the hearing will review how the adjustments might affect residents and guide future decisions.  WITN

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials stress that early hepatitis B vaccination is key after the CDC approved new guidelines. They note that a birth shot is safest to prevent infection and liver disease, and advise parents to consult health care providers if doses are delayed.  Public Radio East
