EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A report from the Education Law Center found that NC public schools failed in two funding areas—ranking 50 of 51 for cost-adjusted per-pupil revenue and last for education investment; local teachers are urging lawmakers to address the shortfalls in the state budget. WITN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ DOT crews began installing a new HAWK crosswalk on East 10th Street near the ECU Student Center and College Hill today. The city says the safety upgrade will be completed by Friday. WITN
- ➤ Pitt County Economic Development was recognized as a Clean Energy Champion on Tuesday, Dec. 16 for its leadership in clean energy policy & economic growth across North Carolina. WITN
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ American Red Cross & Riley’s Army have partnered to host a Christmas Eve blood drive in Greenville on Wednesday, Dec. 24. Residents can donate blood to support the holiday drive. WITN
- ➤ Congressman Greg Murphy, who underwent surgery in May 2024 for a benign pituitary tumor, will soon receive follow-up treatment and plans to rejoin colleagues after the Christmas break. He filed to run for reelection. WITN
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ North Pitt star Ethan Wilson committed to play football at East Carolina this winter and will enroll early to train as a defensive end in his hometown (following his NFL family's footsteps). WITN
