EDUCATION NEWS

  • After 17 years in the Marine Corps, ECU senior Jesse Rodriguez now assists students with hidden disabilities at West Carteret High School in Morehead City through the Occupational Course of Study program.  East Carolina University
  • East Carolina University’s Class of 2025 showed resilience and service through community work; nearly 2,000 graduates will join a commencement ceremony at Minges Coliseum on Friday, Dec. 19 (a celebration of their leadership and achievements).  East Carolina University
  • Andrew DiCuirci graduated Friday from East Carolina University with a computer science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force on Saturday. His family honored the long military tradition with a first salute and oath of office.  East Carolina University
  • Mackenzie Long (a Youngsville native) will cross the stage at ECU on Friday with her elementary education degree and plans to teach in her home county. She credits supportive faculty and has been accepted into ECU’s Master of Arts in Education program.  East Carolina University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city is investing $1.9 million to buy over 100 acres north of the Tar River for a planned sports complex. City officials say the project will enhance local recreational options.  The Daily Reflector

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Belinda Lashea, a midwife from the North Carolina mountains, earned her doctorate at ECU and opened a private homebirth practice in Wilmington as she blends traditional care (learned as an apprentice) with modern nursing to support local mothers.  East Carolina University
