GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bridge connecting Pitt and Lenoir counties was dedicated on Friday to honor fallen state trooper Timothy Howell, who died in 2021 after contracting COVID-19 on the job. His daughters and community members remembered his service — a lasting tribute to his commitment in both counties.  WITN
  • Local officials will host a bridge dedication ceremony soon to honor a fallen trooper. The event, set at a prominent community landmark — details to be confirmed — aims to recognize the trooper's service.  WITN
  • Plymouth resident Delia Leary learned her home was connected to a hidden private well that caused a leak and a water bill over $6,000; the county later cut her bill to about $3,700 with a payment plan.
