ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 20-year-old presumed ECU student was struck by a vehicle at a crosswalk on East 10th Street at College Hill on Wednesday before 9:00 a.m., prompting Mayor P.J. Connelly and ECU students to call for a new pedestrian bridge to boost safety.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former ECU baseball player and Miami Marlins manager Clayton McCullough (World Series-winning coach) will deliver the keynote address at fall commencement this month at ECU in Greenville.  The Daily Reflector

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Transportation Department announced that nearly 3,000 truck driving schools will lose certification if they do not meet training standards, while 4,500 more may face revocation. PCC’s program remains above compliance, ensuring its students continue to receive proper training for safe driving.  WITN
  • Two fire districts in Pitt County received improved fire insurance classifications after state inspections on Dec. 3, so homeowners will soon pay lower insurance premiums.  WITN

HEALTH NEWS

  • North Carolina health officials reported six flu deaths this season, with two people aged 50 to 64 and four aged 65 or older. The Department of Health urges everyone six months and older to get their flu and COVID-19 vaccines.  WITN

SPORTS NEWS

  • On National Signing Day, athletes made their choices as fan cheers filled North Pitt, Kinston and D.H. Conley gymnasiums. Wilson picked ECU after a theatrical moment, while signings at the other schools boosted team spirit — events that took place Wednesday night.  WITN
