  • The town's food pantry closed as a Wallace food giveaway fed over 100 families before Thanksgiving—local officials say residents will need to seek other food support options moving forward.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ECU held a capstone event at Dowdy-Ficklin Stadium where faculty and staff pitched ideas to turn research into market-ready solutions—projects included a patient portal designed to reduce hospital errors and an AI tool for language learners. The event helped bring real-world solutions from academic work into practical use.  East Carolina University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The North Carolina Department of Transportation awarded a 47-million dollar contract to Barnhill Contracting — the project will widen Allen Road in Greenville from two lanes to four lanes while upgrading intersections at Stantonsburg Road and the Dickinson Avenue extension. Construction will begin December first and is expected to finish by late 2029.  WITN

  • Elizabeth Smith, a Bear Grass Senior, led her tennis team to its first 1A State Championship appearance and made a strong run in doubles. Her focus on every point—whether serving or returning—boosted her teammates' play and set a new standard for the team.  WITN
