COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Friday (Nov 21st), volunteers delivered food boxes to about 800 SNAP families in Pitt County after donations were sorted earlier this month. The distribution aimed to provide immediate food support for eligible residents in the community.  The Daily Reflector
  • Greenville native Jimmy Donaldson partnered with the Rockefeller Foundation to fight child labor and boost youth philanthropy—he plans to show that chocolate can be made without using child labor and to help farmers earn a living wage. The partners will visit Ghana early next year to exchange ideas on fair trade and sustainable work practices.  WITN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hyster-Yale announced it will reduce its global workforce by 575 jobs — including more than 100 positions at its Greenville site in Pitt County — to help prepare for a return to profitability as sales recover.  Public Radio East

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices statewide dropped three cents per gallon last week to an average of $2.78—local stations in Greenville such as Sheetz and Duck Thru reported rates as low as $2.58—and drivers are expected to see savings as Thanksgiving travel nears.  WITN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Joseph Coleman, a 28-year-old Greenville man with drug-resistant epilepsy, has raised awareness during Epilepsy Awareness Month as he faces unpredictable seizures that now occur any time of day. He is set to undergo testing and brain surgery in December and his family has started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover his medical expenses.  WITN
