COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Operation Christmas Child began yesterday in Greenville as local groups collected gift-filled shoeboxes for children in need — the drive will continue through the holiday season with volunteer support.  WITN
  • A Lot of Direction, Love and Affection held its annual Thanksgiving food distribution in Mt. Olive this morning and families from Duplin, Sampson, Wayne, Wilson and Lenoir counties arrived as early as 4:30 a.m. for packages that included 1,100 turkeys, 750 hams and local produce — an effort costing up to $80,000.  WITN
  • Almost 700 shoeboxes with gifts were donated at Parkers Chapel Free Will Baptist Church on the first day of Operation Christmas Child, an effort by Samaritan’s Purse to bring holiday cheer to children in over 150 countries. Volunteers pack the boxes with toys, essentials, and personal items—each box is meant for a specific child.  WITN

  • Legally Blonde: The Musical is an energetic show by ECU’s School of Theatre and Dance that starts today at McGinnis Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Nov. 23—ticket prices range from $10 to $20 while special Sorority Night adds extra interest—students and fans enjoy a fresh, women-led performance.  East Carolina University

  • Britni Silver—a standout volleyball player from D.H. Conley—signed with NC State on Monday after helping her team win the East Bracket title in 7A and finish as state runner-up.  WITN
