COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Disabled American Veterans honored local heroes at a ceremony in Greenville—recognizing community members for their service and dedication.  WITN
  • Grocery Buddies of Pitt County provided free breakfast for up to 400 residents on Tuesday amid a government shutdown that paused SNAP benefits—Rezzy’s Perfect Pancakes food truck served hot meals outside Eppes Recreation Center. The nonprofit, which started on November 1 to help families in need, will host another Buddy Breakfast next month.  WITN
  • Students cleaned veteran graves in Greenville on November 11th to honor those who served — their work maintained local memorial sites.  WITN
  • An organization served free breakfast to the community on November 11 to help residents start their day right—many locals joined the event. The meal distribution was part of the group's ongoing community support efforts.  WITN
  • The 2025 Toys for Tots campaign is still accepting applications to help families get holiday gifts—local police have launched the Cops on the Roof initiative to boost outreach.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Josh Stein traveled to Greenville on Monday to honor veterans and address concerns about federal SNAP policies and state Medicaid funding; he announced an expansion of the NCServes program to help veterans access housing & support services.  WITN

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Pitt County Health Department will host Living Well with Diabetes on November 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Pitt County Office Park Community Center at 415 Government Circle in Greenville. The free event—aimed at boosting awareness for National Diabetes Awareness Month—will provide diabetes screenings, blood pressure checks, resource booths, mindful activities and a surprise ECU guest meet and greet.  Pitt County
  • The ECU School of Dental Medicine offered free dental care to veterans today at Ross Hall during its annual ECU Smiles event. Faculty and students gave cleanings, exams and other services to veterans who often cannot afford care— a program started in 2018 with the Veteran Smiles Foundation.  WITN

SPORTS NEWS

  • The ECU women’s basketball team defeated Charleston Southern 91-62 — building an early lead that carried the team to a dominating win.  WITN
  • The East Carolina women’s basketball team defeated Charleston Southern (91-62) Tuesday evening at Minges Coliseum with Taylor Barner scoring 32 points. The Pirates will travel to High Point Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest on ESPN.  WITN
