CULTURE NEWS

  • The Beginner Pickleball 101 class will teach new players the rules and strategies at Pitt County Office Park — 415 Government Circle in Greenville. The eight-session course will begin Thursday, November 13 and run on November 18, 20, 25 and December 2, 4, 9, 11 for $20.  Pitt County

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pitt County Schools reported that 81 students are behind on required vaccines — a number that makes up 1.5% of kindergarten, seventh, and twelfth grade students. Some parents expressed mixed views on vaccination rules while school officials noted the figures match last year’s data.  WITN
  • A multi-million dollar gift from the Maynard family raised the James and Connie Maynard Scholars program award to $40,000 at ECU's College of Education — the investment supports 15 new first-year scholars — offering study abroad benefits and leadership training.  East Carolina University
  • The ECU Royalty Cheer team is set to hold a self-defense class for women to teach basic protection techniques (registration starts soon) as part of their effort to empower local residents (more details to follow).  WITN

  • A new behavioral urgent care center held its ribbon-cutting today on Stantonsburg Road and will open Monday, October 27th to offer 24/7 stabilization for children and adults in mental health crisis—linking patients to ongoing care.  WITN
