CULTURE NEWS

  • Legacy Days expanded its schedule to a three-day event that celebrates eastern North Carolina history — the festivities will take place in Grifton from Friday through Sunday. The change promises more activities that help people learn about the local past.  The Daily Reflector

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pitt County Schools earned national recognition for innovative healthy meals—one of 14 districts statewide to win the Healthy Meal Incentive Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Action for Healthy Kids. The award gives the district access to grants and national exposure—boosting its efforts to include students in menu planning and promote nutritious eating.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Josh Stein announced that the state's medical debt program has cleared more than $6.5 billion in debt for over 2.5 million North Carolinians, and he urged Washington to extend ACA subsidies to keep insurance costs from rising due to possible Medicaid cuts.  WITN
  • Greenville Fire/Rescue named Anderson as its new chief on October 13th — he will lead the team to keep the community safe during emergencies.  WITN
  • Army officials turned down a proposal for a new park intended to create more community space. Local government is now looking at alternative plans—details remain limited.  WITN
