- ➤ Temple Church opened its annual pumpkin patch on Fire Tower Road to raise funds for its youth ministry by offering pumpkins and chrysanthemums for sale. The church will host a fall festival on November 8 that features a petting zoo, train, and games—supporting summer camps, Bible competitions, and missionary trips. WITN

- ➤ Companies and ECU Career Development staff hosted a resume workshop yesterday in Greenville as students worked on improving their resumes amid a rise in jobless claims. ECU Career Development advised keeping resumes to one page — tailoring each resume for the job and avoiding pictures and templates to meet employer scanning systems. WITN
- ➤ Blake Paulk was named Teacher of the Week for his work as a math teacher at North Lenoir High School—he uses engaging lessons to help students see how math works in real life and also actively coaches his children's sports teams and serves as a youth pastor. His background includes graduation from North Carolina Wesleyan College and teaching at various high schools within our area. WITN

- ➤ Sports betting in North Carolina grew in August with paid bets reaching over $463 million—about 30% more than last August, the North Carolina Lottery Commission reported.
