HEALTH NEWS

  • East Carolina University’s counseling center is hosting Winds of Awareness all week on the main campus to raise suicide prevention awareness and offer free, confidential help to students. On Tuesday, ECU counselors set up a pinwheel display featuring 1,100 blue and purple pinwheels to remember lost lives & encourage students to reach out for support.  WITN
  • Today, Greenville seniors from Brookdale Dickinson Avenue donated teddy bears to the ECU Health Foundation for Maynard Children’s Hospital in honor of National Teddy Bear Day — this is their first event and they plan to make it an annual drive.  WITN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Greenville City Council voted unanimously for a $13 million, 50-year lease that will turn ECU’s North Recreational Complex into a sports complex — it will host tournaments in the future.  The Daily Reflector
  • Ten-year-old Brianna Taylor from Greenville excels in both gymnastics and drag racing and advanced to the Youth Athlete of the Year Quarterfinals by Sports Illustrated. Votes will be accepted until September 18th—if she wins, she will receive $25,000, a feature in Sports Illustrated, and be included in an ad campaign by NFL star Russell Wilson's company 3BRAND.  WITN
