- ➤ James Richardson is in court today at the Pitt County Courthouse to ask for an evidentiary hearing on his 2009 double murder conviction, with supporters and the Southern Coalition for Social Justice alleging a flawed investigation — citing prosecutorial misconduct, questionable eyewitness testimony, and suppressed evidence. - ➤ Roman Mora, Jr., a 29-year-old inmate from Fountain held on a $91,000 bond for not appearing in court on drug charges, hanged himself in his Pitt County cell last Friday and died on Monday after being taken to ECU Health Medical Center—state inspectors and the SBI were notified by deputies. - ➤ A Raleigh man was charged with assault after he dragged two Greenville Police Department officers with his vehicle during a traffic stop on Saturday—warrants said. The Daily Reflector

- ➤ Today, Greenville schools begin their new academic year as students and teachers return to classrooms with updated safety protocols and revised schedules. School officials said the changes are designed to support a smooth start for everyone. WITN
