- ➤ The 40th annual Winterville Watermelon Festival begins tonight — vendors and local businesses are getting ready with extra staff and supplies as a cruise-in car show and amusement rides with $25 wristbands kick off the event, drawing visitors from near and far. WITN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Tyquezz Clark, 33, was arrested last night after a stabbing outside a home at 1605 Hopkins Drive where he allegedly used a knife to seriously injure a man—he now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon and is held at Pitt County Jail without bond. WITN
- ➤ Saunsiree Jefferson, a Greenville woman wanted for her son's death in unsanitary motel conditions where he suffered from leukemia, was arrested in Philadelphia — she faces charges of negligent child abuse and involuntary manslaughter. WITN
- ➤ Kevon Filmore, age 29, was arrested yesterday and faces animal cruelty charges after allegedly hurting and not feeding a three month old Pitt Bull while being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon. WITN
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Pitt County Public Health will host the Family Health Block Party at the Government Office Complex in Greenville on Saturday, August 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Residents can get free OTC medicines, health screenings, and children’s activities while the first 100 attendees receive a $10 voucher for the Ripe for Revival Bus (partnered with NC Med Assist).
