EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Donors contributed nearly $74.4 million to East Carolina University in FY 2025, funding scholarships, research, athletics and health sciences to support student success. The donations boosted scholarship programs with $14.6 million and resulted in renaming the signature pitch competition in memory of Gene T. - ➤ North Carolina Appeals Court heard a case Thursday over Pitt County’s plan to donate a Confederate monument removed from the courthouse in 2020. The Sons of Confederate Veterans filed a lawsuit that was dismissed last year — a county attorney said officials now await the court’s decision. WITN
- ➤ The City of Greenville said lanes at the intersection of Red Banks Road and Greenville Boulevard will close tomorrow at 9 p.m. for utility work—open lanes will be maintained by signs and delineators and the project is expected to finish on Saturday. WITN
- ➤ The Greenville City Council unanimously voted to let the Sheppard Memorial Library sell malt beverages and unfortified wines at special events—this change allows the library to serve alcohol during gatherings—adding a new option for event planners. The Daily Reflector
