- ➤ Pitt County deputies arrested Greenville man Robert Moore in the Dollar General parking lot on Stantonsburg Road at 3:50 p.m. Thursday—he is held on several drug charges after deputies seized fentanyl and charged him with level 2 trafficking in opium or heroin as well as maintaining a place for controlled substances with a $200,450 secured bond. - ➤ ECU announced that its 2025-26 Voyages of Discovery Series will have anthropologist Sam Rad on Sept. 11 and best-selling author Dr. Brian Hare on Feb. 5. The speakers will share ideas about human connection and lessons from the past to guide future challenges. East Carolina University
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sound Rivers reported that 20 sites along the lower Neuse and Tar-Pamlico rivers did not pass water-quality tests after heavy downpours brought bacteria from stormwater runoff; Town Common in Greenville is one of the sites that failed. Officials urged residents to avoid the water if they have open wounds — a measure to lessen the risk of illness. WITN

- ➤ Camping World filed a motion to dismiss Greenville's lawsuit over its 3200 square feet flag at its Red Banks Road location—city officials say the flag violates local code and has incurred $33,750 in citations. A supporting memo filed on Thursday claims the case violates state law and retaliates against free speech as lawmakers consider a bill to limit local flag regulation. WITN
- ➤ ECU trustees approved a 50 year lease of the North Recreational Complex on US 264 to Greenville, with the city set to pay an upfront fee of $3 million plus annual lease payments between $150,000 and $300,000. City Council and the UNC Board of Governors must sign off on the deal as the university plans to reinvest the funds in the Blount Recreational Sports Complex. WITN
