- ➤ Pitt County Emergency Management said a van swept off a flooded roadway in Spring Hope claimed two lives — and a police officer trying to help was rescued — while officials warned drivers to avoid floodwater since even a few inches can push a vehicle over. WITN

- ➤ An Ayden man was arrested this week on more than 30 gun + larceny charges after a joint investigation by Ayden police and the Pitt County Sheriff's Office. The Daily Reflector
- ➤ On January 10th, 64-year-old retired ECU professor Enrique Reyes was shot 12 times outside his Forest Acres Drive home in Pitt County in a triple murder that also claimed the lives of Anthony and Paula Gribble+ suspect David Lever made his first court appearance on three counts of murder. WITN

- ➤ On August 7, the ECU Board of Trustees welcomed five new members, including ECU alumni Rich Balot, Nick Crabtree, Matt Crisp, and Curtis Struyk, and SGA president Daniel Walker (with four-year terms beginning July 1 for four appointees and a one-year term for Walker) ahead of the fall semester starting Aug. 25. New members attended orientation on Wednesday before joining the full board meeting on Thursday as the university prepared for the new academic year. East Carolina University

- ➤ Today, construction began on Greenville Town Common bulkhead to replace the old wall and enhance the esplanade. Crews are moving equipment and doing surveys to relocate mussels and search for endangered species while parts of the park remain closed during the nearly $20 million, 18-month project. WITN
