- ➤ Pitt County Animal Services is hosting the 'Half the Price, Twice the Love' event to adopt cats and dogs over one year old at half the fee—which covers spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, testing and deworming—to help ease overcrowding. The adoption event will be held this Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pet Supplies Plus in Greenville. WITN

- ➤ A GFL trash truck caught fire near the intersection of West 5th Street and Reade Street by Sup Dogs this morning—Greenville Fire/Rescue and police are investigating the cause with no injuries reported. WITN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ J.H. Rose band students beat the summer heat at band camp by drinking water, eating breakfast and taking a break in the third quarter — they also wear shorts and a t-shirt during hot games to stay cool. The band will show its skills at its home game on August 28 — they take on Washington to open their season. WITN
- ➤ Teachers and students are shopping for school supplies for the upcoming school year as tariffs on imported goods may drive up costs (items from Europe face a 15% tariff while those from Asia can see a 25% increase). Target will keep prices on basic supplies steady while experts advise buying soon to avoid higher costs. WITN
- ➤ ECU’s summer programs—offering experiences in culinary, theatre, STEM and health care—brought K-12 students from eastern North Carolina to campus to explore new career paths.
