  • An end-of-summer pool party celebrated adult Special Olympians in Greenville as East Carolina’s Matt Maloney hosted the event with Pirate baseball stars Ethan Norby and Walker Barron as guests of honor + attendees enjoyed pool time, pizza, and ribs. The event has been held for 35 years + it continues a cherished local tradition celebrating Special Olympics achievements.  WNCT
  • Today, thirteen Dairy Queen locations across eastern Carolina, including one in Greenville, join Miracle Treat Day so that every Blizzard purchased donates $1 or more to Maynard Children’s Hospital; the event has raised over $204,000 over the past 21 years.  WITN

  • HIS Stage Theatre debuts its production of Clue this weekend—an adaptation of the board game that has lasted over 75 years and a cult film that has entertained audiences for over 40 years, promising laughs and surprises.  The Daily Reflector

  • East Carolina University was chosen as a partner in the national CIRCLE program to improve teaching and leadership in rural schools.   • Baby Tristan left the neonatal intensive care unit after a 179-day stay and went home on July 31 — marking the end of his long hospital period.  WITN
  • ECU Health, Safe Kids Pitt County, and the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office held a hot car safety demonstration at Kohl’s on Galleria Drive Thursday morning—organizers roasted s’mores in a parked car to show how fast temperatures can rise above 120 degrees. Attendees learned tips like placing items in the back seat to help remember to check the car before leaving.  WITN
