- ➤ Deputies in Pitt County arrested 22-year-old Cody McDaniel on Tuesday after he emerged from a Britlyn Lane home search holding a firearm stolen from one of the vehicles broken into on Rouse Road—he now faces charges of break or enter motor vehicle with theft, larceny of a firearm, and possession of a stolen firearm while remaining in jail on a $30,000 secured bond. - ➤ Governor Josh Stein signed Senate Bill 429, which will restrict access to autopsy records starting Oct. 1. Under the new law, records from criminal investigations will be released only to a decedent’s family, assigned professionals, law enforcement, and public health officials — minors will need written permission from a parent while media access will require a Superior Court petition. - ➤ The City of Greenville will begin building the Town Common Bulkhead and Esplanade Project to boost flood protection and improve the park experience starting the week of July 14—Trader Construction will secure the construction zone while playgrounds, restrooms, and walking paths remain open for visitors. City staff are finalizing plans with engineers and construction teams after the project was approved on May 5. WNCT
