COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, volunteers at Greenville Community Shelter transfer administrative offices to a new resource center (with classroom space and a medical clinic) as part of its expansion.  The Daily Reflector
  • Community Crossroads began moving supplies Tuesday with dozens of local volunteers and John Paul II Catholic High School students to start its new resource center at 207 Manhattan Avenue. The center will offer a clinic, office space, donation room, and classrooms while the old building will convert to add six family rooms and host tutoring classes — these steps will help more people in need this summer.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pitt County Board of Elections opened municipal candidate filing on July 7 and will close it at 12:00 p.m. on July 18—applicants must file their notice of candidacy at the BOE office on N Greene Street in Greenville.  Pitt County

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nutrition experts advised local residents to choose snacks with high water content like fruit skewers and watermelon salads instead of sugary treats to stay energized and hydrated when Tuesday's feels-like temperature (106°) was very high.  WITN
  • An ECU speech language pathology student, Hannah Shook, tested various kitchen blenders yesterday at Greenville’s Head and Neck Cancer Clinic to find which models create smooth, dysphagia‑safe food—funded by the Undergraduate Research and Creativity Award—and her team compared machines to help patients enjoy shared meals with dignity. The study may guide future steps to have high‑performance devices covered by insurance.  East Carolina University
