ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce & Optimum are partnering to award 25 small businesses with a $5,000 grant each in the local area. The groups said the program will support local entrepreneurs & boost the regional economy. WNCT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pitt County Department of Social Services invites businesses and residents to wear purple on June 15 to raise awareness of elder abuse. The department will hold its annual awareness walk on Friday, June 13 at 8:30 a.m. in front of the County Office Complex at 1717 West 5th Street in Greenville—aiming to highlight the issue of underreported elder neglect and abuse. - ➤ Crews will begin resurfacing Portertown Road, L.T. Hardee Road, and Eastern Pines Road next week in Pitt County. The DOT estimates the work will last about a month — drivers are urged to slow down and follow posted signs. WITN
- ➤ Pitt County officials approved a tax increase during a budget vote on June 11th—expected to raise funds for essential county services. WITN
