Good morning, Greenville.

On Saturday, members of the Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department and families honored fallen firefighters Jay Lyons and Gary Cox at a memorial event (Lyons died one year ago on vacation and Cox drowned in 2020 in the Tar River).

ECU hosted a seminar at its Rural Education Institute — 50 schools gathered for breakout sessions on the Welsh community focused school model, including insights from superintendent Melanie Shaver on outdoor education policies.

The event gave local superintendents a chance to learn and collaborate.

ECU is hosting a learning seminar for superintendents at its campus (in Greenville) to share best practices and leadership strategies; the event will benefit local school district leaders and is scheduled for later this week.

During spring commencement at Pitt Community College, about 100 students earned both high school diplomas and associate’s degrees.

One high school junior completed the associate’s program ahead of schedule (a rare achievement) and set a new milestone in local education.

Tennessee Athletics announced on Saturday that ECU Pitching Coach Austin Knight is leaving to lead their staff next season.

Knight served for five seasons at ECU, where his team led the conference in ERA, and will be replaced by promoted coach Jake Agnos.
