COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Saving Graces 4 Felines is working with local volunteers to find forever homes for adoptable cats — this week, residents can meet Sport, a seven-month-old stray who is friendly with other cats and children. Interested adopters must pay a $95 cash fee and provide a good vet reference to complete the adoption.  WITN

CRIME NEWS

  • Greenville police arrested 20-year-old Montrell Carmon yesterday for assaulting his four-month pregnant girlfriend+ he now faces charges of two counts of battery of an unborn child, two counts of domestic violence and second-degree kidnapping and remains in Pitt County Jail with no bond.  WITN
  • Greenville police are investigating a hit-and-run on Memorial Drive in which a bicyclist suffered minor injuries after riding home to call for help at 9:30 p.m. + emergency crews treated him at the scene and took him to hospital.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oakwood School is installing $300,000 in security measures funded by a federal grant to boost safety after a triple murder occurred near the school in January—though the plan had been in development before the incident. The upgrade includes 50 cameras, security laminates on windows and doors, and an AI visitor management system that will be completed by the end of this week.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Greenville filed a lawsuit against Camping World on Thursday after the council approved legal action in March to challenge an oversized American flag and flagpole that violates city code. The suit follows an October 31 notice of violation and comes after Camping World failed to pay significant accrued penalties while its CEO maintained the flag will remain flying.  WITN

HEALTH NEWS

  • ECU Health Medical Center announced that six local students graduated from Project SEARCH, a one-year program for high school students with disabilities. Coordinator Doris Hill said the program gave them hands-on work experience — to help them get jobs.  WNCT
