  • Eagle Rock Concrete opened a new facility in Ayden today. The company is expected to create jobs and boost the local economy in Pitt County — a move that builds on its reputation for quality and reliable service.  Pitt County

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Homeowners in eastern North Carolina and across the state saw property insurance rates increase, with statewide base rates rising 7.5% this year and set to rise by the same amount next year. Coastal areas saw more than a 10% increase while beach properties jumped about 16%.  Public Radio East

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Smoke from wildfires in southern Canada has darkened Eastern North Carolina skies with enhanced sunrises and sunsets. The smoky haze will linger through midweek until winds shift—residents with respiratory issues are advised to monitor air quality alerts.  WITN

  • The intersection of West Fifth Street — South Pitt Street is closing today for Greenville's BUILD Project and will remain closed for about six to seven months while crews improve sidewalks, crosswalks, and traffic signals. Downtown businesses will stay open during the work.  WITN

  • Greenville Utilities Commission plans to conduct its federally required natural gas pipeline safety survey online—shifting from phone calls—so customers receive emails and texts with the link; officials say the digital change will boost participation and lower costs.  Public Radio East
