GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Greenville’s interim police chief said at a public forum last week that the department will boost traffic safety by adding more officers to the streets—including two new motorcycle units—to aid officer retention.  The Daily Reflector
  • Interim Chief Richard Tyndall, a Greenville native who has served over 20 years with the police department, was promoted to Chief of Police effective May 31—City Manager Michael Cowin said the internal talent was clear and a national search was not necessary. He will be officially sworn in on Monday at 11 a.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers.  Public Radio East
  • The North Carolina DMV will offer walk-in services at the Greenville DMV on N. Creek Dr. and the Jacksonville office on Wilmington Hwy from 8:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m. on Saturdays from May 31 to Aug 23, excluding closures on June 28 and July 5; services include driver license and ID cards, renewals or duplicate orders, address changes, REAL ID issuances, and road tests for customers who have completed the required tests.  Public Radio East
  • North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson warned consumers against pet scams when buying puppies and kittens online or at pet stores that may source animals from mills—complaints show scammers use fake photos and third-party payment methods. He advised buyers to ask for proof of health care, meet sellers in person, and consider adopting from local shelters.  Public Radio East
