CRIME NEWS

  • The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office is searching for missing 17-year-old Kaylah Carr who was last seen on May 26 in northern Pitt County wearing a black shirt, black shorts, and black/purple crocs — her hair is orange and anyone with information should call 252-758-7777.  WITN
  • The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office said 71-year-old Gloria Daniels was found safe this morning after being reported missing and that she was last seen Thursday in Grimesland wearing a red polka dot sundress & driving a powder blue Mazda 6 Grand Touring sedan.  WITN

  • ECU’s Joyner Library is showing an exhibit called 'In Their Footsteps: Exploring World War II Through Archival Records' that features photos, diaries, oral histories and posters across three floors—timing its display with the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and available until December.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The SECU Foundation (State Employees’ Credit Union) awarded $10K four-year college scholarships to six local graduating high school seniors. The awards will help the students start college with financial support for tuition costs.  The Daily Reflector

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During Memorial Day ceremonies in Greenville, Highway Patrol warned that summer may become the 100 Deadliest Days for teen drivers after 7,316 teen-related fatal crashes occurred from 2012 to 2021 — urging drivers to follow restrictions, wear seatbelts, and avoid distractions on the road. The agency also advised families to respect limits on passengers and speed to keep roads safer.  WITN
  • On Memorial Day, protestors gathered outside the Pitt County Courthouse to voice concerns that constitutional rights were being ignored. Hosted by 50501 Greenville — which is planning a veterans march on June 6 and a rally on June 14 — the memorial-style protest featured tombstones with amendments to emphasize their call for equal enforcement of the law.  WITN
