  • Planet Fitness will open its second club this summer as Excel Fitness begins construction on a 20,000 sqft facility at 1400 Charles Boulevard (Charles Blvd Shopping Center) that formerly hosted Harris Teeter.   • Margaret Stallings, a 2nd-grade teacher at Ayden Elementary, is named Teacher of the Week for her nine years of dedicated service and inspiring classroom moments. A graduate of East Carolina University (with a focus on both teaching and parenting), she continues to make a significant impact on her students.  WITN
  • First responders in Pitt County bought used textbooks for volunteer firefighters in PCC’s Firefighter I and II courses after high costs blocked training; the books, priced $80-$140, are free to check out at the PCC library (with a library card and Pitt County Emergency Services ID) to boost test results.  WITN
  • ECU held a ceremony Tuesday at the Williams-Clark Club at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, recognizing faculty and staff with 30 or more years of state service. Recipients including Dr. George Bailey—recipient of the Richard Caswell Award for 45 years—were honored for their contributions to the university’s mission.  East Carolina University
