CRIME NEWS

  • A man and a woman were charged with using a roommate’s financial card to steal about $18,000 from a Pitt County woman over the past year—officials said the Pitt County Sheriff's Office reported the fraud.  The Daily Reflector
  • A man was charged with assault after he told the local sheriff's office that his brother was accidentally shot at a residence in southern Pitt County — authorities are investigating the case.  The Daily Reflector

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, work began on ECU's Legacy Hall—part of the campus Housing Master Plan—that will cost $28.2 million. The building will get new restrooms, more lobby space, an elevator and new furnishings, and it will be closed for one year with plans to reopen for new students in fall.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Greenville Utilities Commission advised residents to set thermostats to 78 degrees and use fans to help keep air conditioning costs lower as summer nears. They urged residents to service and maintain units, including checking and changing filters before warmer weather drives up bills.  WITN
  • Crews will close a section of Dickinson Avenue from West 8th Street to Reade Circle today for repairs as they finish sewer and water work, then curb and gutter operations, and end with roadway repairs — detour signs will guide traffic and work will later expand further down the road.  WITN
  • Snow Hill residents filled the town board meeting tonight to voice strong opposition to reports that the local police department might be disbanded, saying they need officers who know their community (officers learned of the plans via a May 10 rumor). Town officials said they contacted the Greene County Sheriff's Office to provide full coverage while they review budget proposals before the June 30 deadline.  WITN
