ECONOMY NEWS

  • Electric car drivers in Greenville are paying less for energy as gas prices rise above $4 a gallon amid unsettled peace talks in Iran, while home charging proves far cheaper than filling up at the pump.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Department of Public Instruction restored Canvas access today after a cyberattack forced a shutdown, letting local schools resume online learning.  The Daily Reflector
  • The local FFA chapter went above and beyond in its recent community outreach in Greenville on May 11, providing extra support for youth programs and agriculture training for future local farmers.  WITN
  • Greene Central’s FFA chapter was honored with the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award by Gov. Josh Stein today for its work at the Greene County Animal Shelter — the group is also running a greenhouse sale during the week until school ends.  WITN
  • Canvas will return today after hackers disrupted local school systems last week. Pitt County Schools will restore access at 7:00 a.m. while Carteret County reconnects at 8:00 a.m. following the state confirming the system is secure.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Greenville Fire/Rescue Department will hold a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Wednesday at 2900 East Second Street for its new live burn training facility. The $500,000 facility (built by Symtech Fire) will provide firefighters with live fire training space and room for future expansion.  WITN
