  • Saving Graces 4 Felines has Dove available for adoption in Greenville. The laid-back cat, who enjoys bird watching from her foster home, arrived abandoned with her two kittens and will require a $95 fee + a vet reference for her forever home.  WITN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Greenville tourism spending reached a new record on May 7 (a boost for local business) as officials reported increased visitor spending; local leaders expect the trend to drive further economic growth.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ECU’s Brody School of Medicine held its first dedicated hooding ceremony today at the Main Campus Student Center in Greenville — 75 graduates marked their transition into medicine by choosing a loved one to hood them.  WITN
  • Two Greenville students were named Morehead-Cain Scholars at UNC Chapel Hill — one of 65 recipients selected — marking a notable achievement in local education.  The Daily Reflector
  • Pitt County Schools are investigating a data breach on the Canvas (state-supported) learning platform by Instructure that was reported on May 1; officials say the breach, which exposed personal data, has been contained and Canvas remains operational while they determine next steps.  WITN
  • Pitt County Schools will spend over $500,000 this summer to replace its aging data center to avoid phone and internet disruptions; state funds may also help update school computers.  The Daily Reflector

HEALTH NEWS

  • ECU Health’s TEDI BEAR Children’s Advocacy Center — and the Center for Child and Family Wellness — have joined under one roof to help children who have been abused. The new center now offers both forensic interviews and prevention support for families across 31 counties.  Public Radio East
  • Pitt County Animal Services is under a precautionary quarantine after three cases of canine parvovirus were detected earlier this week; non-emergency intakes are paused until Friday, May 15 + emergency cases will be accepted as needed, with many healthy dogs remaining available for foster care and adoption.  Public Radio East
