  • Today, the Council on Aging celebrates its 50th anniversary by opening its doors for a festive event that features line dancing—exercise classes—resource booths—and tours to show its services for local older adults. Executive Director Rich Zeck said the event honors decades of service while addressing challenges in funding and raising public awareness.  WITN
  • Pitt County Animal Services is inviting Greenville residents to sign up for Doggy Day Out — a program where you can take a shelter dog for a field trip and return it later that day for evaluation to boost its chance of adoption. Participants will pick up their dog between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and bring it back between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.  Pitt County

  • The Pitt County Board of Education approved a budget proposal that seeks nearly $62 million for salary increases and technology improvements in local schools. The proposal includes over $10 million more than last year’s request—county officials will now review the plan.  The Daily Reflector
  • Suzie Fernandez, a 6th-grade math teacher at Newport Middle School—named Teacher of the Week—began her first year with Carteret County after more than 20 years teaching in South Korea, Arizona, and eastern North Carolina.   • Today, airports and military bases, including Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, require a Real ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card for entry under the Real ID Act of 2005.
