- ➤ The Lenoir County SPCA in Greenville cares for 72 dogs and between 40 and 50 cats as warm weather brings more puppies and kittens this season. The shelter needs food donations—dry and wet foods and milk replacements—and is hiring someone who loves animal care for the puppy room. WITN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Farmville man is in jail this morning for allegedly dumping his one-year-old dog—Franky—at the Pitt County Animal Shelter on April 14 after the dog chased him into traffic on County Home Road, and he faces misdemeanor charges of abandonment, cruelty to animals and a leash law violation with a court date on May 19 after posting a $500 bond. - ➤ Today, many community members and education supporters gathered outside Congressman Greg Murphy’s office in Greenville to back public schools with picket signs and a letter. - ➤ Sound Rivers, led by Katey Zimmerman, tests water and checks hotline reports to keep local rivers clean. The nonprofit addresses sewage spills, sediment from development, and nutrient pollution from industrial agriculture & works with local regulators while recruiting volunteers to monitor the Pamlico-Tar and Neuse Basins.
