  • Local bridal shops in Greenville are warning that tariffs on Chinese imports set at 145% are driving up wedding gown prices. Shop managers say designers average the tariff cost into a set fee and waive shipping fees so that extra charges stay between 100 and 200 dollars per dress.  WITN

CRIME NEWS

  • A Greenville woman, 25-year-old Jynecia Arrington, was arrested yesterday by Raleigh police for stealing over $13,000 in merchandise from two Bath & Body Works stores and for her role in three thefts last November — she now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges and is held on a $250,000 bond at Pitt County Jail.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Emily Perry, a seventh-grade English teacher at Chocowinity Middle School, was named Teacher of the Week by WITN—she teaches at the school she once attended and also coaches softball while advising the National Junior Honor Society.  WITN
  • Beaufort County Community College will launch a Therapeutic Massage diploma program in Fall to offer a one-year, 39-credit-hour course that teaches hands-on techniques, anatomy, physiology and client care for the NC Board Licensing Exam + the college will also return its 16-credit-hour Esthetics Technology certificate to the Cosmetology program as both courses await state review, opening new career paths.  WITN

SPORTS NEWS

  • JP2 sophomore Alana Albritton became the first softball player at her school to earn All-State honors as a freshman and now ranks in the top 50 in state statistics. Her varsity team, made up mostly of underclassmen, has an 11-8-1 record and aims to host and win a playoff game this season (a goal supported by her head coach and father).  WITN
