CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the Greenville Museum of Art said it will begin a vault makeover this summer using a $75,000 federal matching grant along with extra money from local charities (the Mildred Sheffield Wells Charitable Trust and the Eddie and Allison Jo Smith Family Foundation). The project will make it easier to store and display art and is set to finish before the September fashion show.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ECU honored faculty for outstanding teaching at the University Teaching Awards on April 17th at the Main Campus Student Center. Board of Governors Award winner Laura Levi Altstaedter — noted for her innovative teaching and mentoring — was among those recognized.  East Carolina University
  • Innovation Early College High School earned statewide recognition as a 2025 Cognia National STEM School of Distinction—recognizing its project-based curriculum that focuses on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals—and its commitment to preparing students for college and careers.  WITN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sylvan Heights Bird Park is hosting free events each Saturday in April as part of the North Carolina Science Festival, with the biggest event on Earth Day, April 19th, offering exhibits and activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The park will also host Save the Frogs Day on April 26th and hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Penguin Point aviary on June 7th—planned to be completed by 2026.  WITN

  • The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office is hiring deputy sheriff trainees and will pay for all required training classes even for those with no law enforcement experience.
