- ➤ A fatal accident occurred Thursday morning at about 7:52 a.m. in Williamston near the intersection of Highway 17 and Ralph Taylor Road when Samantha Shepherd, 38, died after colliding with a car driven by Rakimah Lopez, 39, who suffered serious injuries and was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. - ➤ DaBaby will appear at Stilllife in Greenville on Tuesday, April 29 to celebrate the last day of classes with a guest DJ opening the event—tickets cost $40 for guests 21 and up and $60 for 18-20, with a VIP booth package and ten tickets available for $1,000. WNCT
- ➤ Grifton’s 53rd annual Shad Festival kicks off today and runs through Sunday, offering vendors, amusement rides, and events for everyone to enjoy — the parade is set for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and the Shad Toss will occur from 2 to 5 p.m. WITN

- ➤ ECU and the Golden LEAF Foundation held their 10th annual celebration on April 10th to honor 70 student scholars, including siblings Sarah and Khalid Nasser, as part of a program that awards 215 scholarships each year and offers paid internships to students from rural areas — a strong partnership that has supported over 288 alumni in building their futures. - ➤ Charlotte Pete, a determined occupational therapy student at ECU, suffered a serious COVID-19 brain injury that led her from ECU Health Medical Center to Duke Hospital—she then underwent intensive rehab and received strong backup from family, peers, and faculty before graduating. - ➤ Pitt County will host the Spring Litter Sweep from April 12 to 26, offering organized local cleanups to help keep roadsides and communities litter-free. - ➤ Greenville City Council approved $715,000 for a 72-unit affordable housing project on Smythewyck Drive for citizens 55 and older with incomes at or below 80 percent of the median — 8 percent of the units will be reserved for vulnerable populations such as the unhoused and veterans. The Taft-Mills Group project is ready to begin and will complete construction by 2027. WITN
- ➤ A bill named Jesse’s Law was introduced Thursday in the NC House to improve court handling of abuse claims in custody cases by requiring training for those involved, and it aims to protect children and survivors. The law honors 3-year-old Jesse Adams of Grifton, who was killed by his father in 2012 after his mother filed for divorce. WITN
