CRIME NEWS

  • A 21-year-old man from Beaufort County was arrested in Pitt County after he grabbed his pregnant girlfriend by the neck and strangled her so she could not breathe and got bruised, and he was charged with felony assault, assault on a female, domestic violence, battery of an unborn child and possession of a firearm by a felon—he is now in Pitt County Jail under a $25,000 bond.  WITN
  • Faith Pellini, an ECU student, was released from jail after a Friday campus arrest on charges of injury to personal property + second degree trespass and resisting public officer and faces a May 8 court appearance while also being subject to expulsion proceedings.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pitt County will celebrate National County Government Month in April by showcasing county initiatives including an online permitting portal for contractors, developers and homeowners as well as expanded cultural arts programming and pediatric health services. The county will release program videos beginning April 5 and adopt a proclamation on April 7 to mark the campaign.  Pitt County
  • A public informational meeting for the proposed industrial megasite park will be held today at 6 p.m. at the Pitt County Agricultural Center—residents can learn about plans for nearly 1,000 acres near Highway 11. A second session is scheduled for April 3 at 6 p.m. at Ayden Middle School as part of a series of four meetings.  WITN

  • Ross Orthodontics began offering dental screenings at Joy Soup Kitchen on Monday to diagnose dental issues for local community members in need. Dr. Dennis Ross said the program is set to expand into additional dental procedures and a mobile dentist unit—hoping to provide faster care.  WNCT
  • April is National Distracted Driving Month as the Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department warns that distracted driving—caused by cellphone use, adjusting the radio or GPS, or eating—leads to nearly 25% of crashes and up to 3,000 deaths each year. They urge Greenville drivers to keep their eyes on the road to help cut down on these accidents.  WNCT
