- ➤ An online fundraiser has been launched to cover funeral expenses for Rashawn Gray after he was killed early Sunday near Ayden when his body was found pinned under a vehicle close to Abbott Farm and Rountree Roads — Pitt County deputies charged Matthew Warren from Buffalo with murder and Bobby Joyner from Greenville with accessory after the fact. - ➤ ECU’s piano program celebrates student achievement and will host a festival June 21-29 with guest artists like Richard Goode — a special chance for local and regional pianists to learn from top musicians. The program also launched the ECU Piano Academy to offer weekly lessons while Greenville native Holden Burroughs, a standout student, won a major young artist competition last November. - ➤ During Monday's meeting of the Pitt County Board of Commissioners, a vote to allocate $3 million for a new Farmville fire station failed 7-1 — and the board postponed its vote on a firearm ordinance. The delay means officials will consider their next steps before moving forward with either decision. The Daily Reflector
- ➤ Greenville City Council voted to file civil action against Camping World over an oversized flag at 111 Red Banks Road to bring it into compliance with city regulations. As of March 25, Camping World received 45 citations totaling $10,900 and paid only $650, leaving $10,250 still due. WNCT
- ➤ Farmville firefighters and town officials said they were upset when Pitt County commissioners voted 1 to 7 on Monday night to deny a $3 million request for a new fire station to replace a 97-year-old facility that has not been updated since the 1980s (the building lacks space for modern fire trucks and meeting areas) (Mayor John Moore said other departments’ funding needs helped lead to the rejection). - ➤ Attorney General Jeff Jackson urged residents to delete their 23andMe accounts after the DNA firm filed for bankruptcy this weekend — warning that private genetic and health data could be sold — and said his office is monitoring the proceedings closely.
