  • Building Hope Community Life Center celebrated its 25th anniversary on Mar. 23 in Greenville as local leaders praised its role in community service & neighbor support.  WITN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A mobile home fire in Pitt County trapped and killed three dogs & a cat as emergency responders investigated the cause and urged residents to review their fire safety measures.  WITN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bostic Sugg Furniture, a nearly century-old store (established in 1937) at 2115 East Fire Tower Road, will begin liquidating inventory with big price cuts at 10 a.m. Thursday. Owner Britt Laughinghouse said the family business will close soon as she retires to spend more time with family and travel.  WITN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Piney Grove Baptist Church will host its 47th annual outdoor Easter play, a long-standing local tradition (event details are available from the church). The play is scheduled for Easter Sunday for residents to enjoy a festive celebration.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • East Carolina University saw more students enroll in teaching programs last year (while statewide educator preparation enrollment declined), adding to concerns over the teacher pipeline.  The Daily Reflector

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Starting April 1, the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will begin a special striped bass season on Tar-Pamlico and Neuse rivers until April 30. Anglers may keep one fish per day with a minimum of 18 inches while fish from 22 to 27 inches must be released.  Public Radio East

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The North Carolina Forest Service has issued a statewide burn ban due to dry conditions and rising wildfire risks, Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said. All current permits are canceled, and travelers must use portable gas stoves (or grills) until the ban is lifted.  Public Radio East
