- ➤ Firefighters from Eastern Carolina took part in a water shuttle training exercise in Beaufort County on Saturday morning to practice drawing water from ponds when hydrants are not available. Approximately 100 first responders from Pitt, Martin and Bertie Counties worked at different sites before moving water to Jones Middle School — officials say the drill sharpens skills for rural firefighting — and prepares teams for future emergencies. - ➤ The Greenville City Council voted four to two this week against an amendment to let 3200 square foot flags fly in commercial areas—upholding the city law that requires removal—and council members said they debated the issue for hours.
