  • Emerald City Associates filed a lawsuit against First Bank in Greenville + alleging that by approving a false email request the bank allowed scammers to access its accounts and steal over $560,000 from its rental property funds while refusing to return the lost money.  Public Radio East

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The North Carolina Forest Service has asked residents to delay outdoor burning because of an increased wildfire risk. The Department of Environmental Quality said it is illegal to burn trash, building materials, and other man-made items—locals should check local rules for permitted yard waste burns.  Public Radio East

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congressman Greg Murphy said the planned Social Security office closures in Greenville and Elizabeth City will affect only small hearing rooms within another SSA office—not the public-serving field offices. He noted that most hearings are held online so essential services will remain available.  Public Radio East

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials warn that a new study shows a rise in alcohol-related liver disease among young adults, with the disease now affecting more young women than in past years. They advise residents to limit alcohol intake during busy weekends—watching for symptoms like nausea and fatigue so that early tests and treatment can be pursued.  WITN
