COMMUNITY NEWS

  • East Carolina University and United Way Inner Banks hosted their second annual nonprofit summit at ECU Student Center today to build capacity for nonprofit groups across eastern North Carolina. Attendees took part in workshops on human resources, fiscal management, and strategic planning plus featured a mission marketplace for showcasing services.  WITN
  • Golfers will tee off at Ironwood Golf & Country Club on April 23rd at 8:30 a.m. for the Driving Out Cancer golf tournament, which supports Riley's Army programs that help families facing childhood cancer ease costs for essentials.  WITN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Veteran publisher and marketing manager Guthrie has been named the new Daily Reflector publisher and AMM-ENC regional president to lead local media operations in Greenville and across the region, according to an official announcement.  The Daily Reflector

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ECU’s 10th Pirate Nation Gives raised over $12M from 2,800 donors, making it the most successful day of giving in the decade. The campus event featured donation challenges and themed activities on Wednesday (supporting scholarships and innovation).  East Carolina University
  • More than 600 middle and high school students competed at the SkillsUSA North Carolina East Regional Rally hosted by Pitt Community College Friday. The event featured nearly 50 competitions including welding, carpentry, T-shirt design and debate, and top competitors will advance to the state competition next month in Greensboro.  WITN
  • White Oak High School dedicated a 'moon tree' (grown from lunar seeds) in honor of astronaut Christina Koch during a recent ceremony on campus. The tribute marks Koch’s inspiring achievements and encourages students to reach for the stars.  WITN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kinston Boys (73-62) and Goldsboro Girls (54-44) won the East finals and earned spots in the 3A State Championship. Their state championship games will be played later on Saturday.  WITN
  • The second annual Pirate 10 & 4 Miler will take place on Saturday, March 28 (registration remains open) in Greenville. Participants will enjoy a festive community race with a welcoming local spirit.  WITN
