  • Saving Graces 4 Felines is seeking local families to adopt Darla, a petite and cuddly cat found in a foster mom’s yard. Darla is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped, and adopters must pay a $95 fee and provide a vet reference.  WITN
  • Next week, Greenville Community Shelter will open a new family area that gives homeless families a safe space to call home.  The Daily Reflector
  • Princeville, the first North Carolina town chartered by freed African Americans, honors its history despite floods from Hurricanes Floyd and Matthew. A new FEMA-funded 53-acre development will move key infrastructure out of flood zones by June — a sign of the town’s continued resilience and pride.  WITN

  • Scientists from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University measured ocean mass from 1993 to 2022 and found meltwater caused 60% of the 90mm sea level rise. The study offers new data for city planners in Eastern NC to improve climate resilience strategies.  WITN

HEALTH NEWS

  • State labor officials launched an investigation after 18 workers fell ill at a solar plant in Pitt County on Thursday. Officials are assessing conditions to improve workplace safety.  WITN
  • The ECU PT Club is set to host its 6th annual PT Pirate 5K run/walk tomorrow at Wildwood Park at 9 a.m. Each $35 registration—available online or at the race—will support its student-run free physical therapy clinic, volunteer work and board-prep exam.  WITN
  • ECU Health and Pitt County Health Department met on Friday to advise residents on measles vaccinations after 23 cases were reported statewide since December. They stress that uninsured children can receive free vaccines and adults should check if they need a booster shot (consult a doctor for details).  WITN

  • Pitt County Cultural Arts and Recreation is hosting the 43rd Annual Greenville-Pitt County Senior Games from April 6 to April 25, with registration ending on March 5. Athletes and artists aged 50+ will compete in over 40 sports events across our community.  WITN
