ECONOMY NEWS

  • ECU is using sensor technology on local farms to track water levels, soil moisture and crop conditions, with devices active in Hyde County canals and in a Wilson greenhouse. Gibbs will meet with farmers today to explain how the project lessens manual work and helps modernize agriculture.  WITN

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study from East Carolina University tracked 294 heart patients and found that after implant surgery, their daily movement increased until it plateaued after about two months (suggesting earlier rehab may boost recovery).   • Parkinson’s patients are now meeting for non-contact Rock Steady Boxing at UNC Health Lenoir’s Minges Wellness Center in Kinston to boost strength and mobility.   • The Humane Society of Eastern North Carolina in Greenville urged pet owners to book spay and neuter appointments last Tuesday to reduce shelter overcrowding and improve pet health, noting that local clinics provided low-cost options for the procedures.  WITN
