- ➤ Julia’s Well Community Charitable Pantry in Ayden faces a $3,000 repair bill after a burst pipe under the pavement, which may reduce the donations available to serve at least 70 families weekly. - ➤ Students at South Central High School walked out during Friday's graduation ceremony over the decision to honor a fallen student. Officials said they are meeting with student leaders to review the incident and address concerns. WITN
- ➤ ECU Board of Trustees approved a three-year contract extension for athletics director Jon Gilbert on Friday, Feb. 13, ensuring he will lead through December 2029. Chancellor Philip Rogers praised Gilbert's record in fundraising and academic achievement (including a record $103 million in gifts) during his tenure. East Carolina University
- ➤ Earlier this week, the ECU Board of Trustees honored community advocate David Womack with its Trustees Award for Distinction — recognizing decades of support for student leadership and civic initiatives. - ➤ WITN’s MyTV 7.2 will broadcast ECU Pirates baseball on Monday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. and softball on Tuesday, Mar. 4 at 5 p.m. at Campbell University as part of an ongoing local college sports partnership. WITN
- ➤ East Carolina University trustees approved a new contract for head football coach Blake Harrell that boosts his salary by $175,000, effective March 1 and extends his tenure through Feb. 14, 2030. Harrell has led the football team to consecutive Military Bowl wins and a 14-5 record since Oct. 20, 2024. WITN
- ➤ ECU Baseball dropped its season opener 4-3 to Xavier on Friday afternoon at Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The Pirates rallied late with a big home run in the ninth and will start the second game of the doubleheader at 12:30 p.m. today. WITN
