- ➤ Kim Blackstone, a special education teacher at Lakeforest Elementary (with 29 years of experience), is named Teacher of the Week for her clear dedication to inclusive classrooms and student growth. She also mentors colleagues and supports families in navigating special education. WITN
- ➤ At East Carolina University on Feb. 5, Dr. Brian Hare explained how dogs' evolution can teach us to build a friendlier future. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, state health officials reported that flu deaths have reached 263 this season after 27 new fatalities, including two children. The numbers are significantly lower than last season's count of 544. WITN
- ➤ North Carolina reported 18 measles cases since December (72% among unvaccinated), with one child hospitalized in Nash County and an infected person visiting five Raleigh locations while contagious; local pharmacists advise unvaccinated residents to vaccinate within 72 hours if exposed. WITN
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Kinston defeated J.H. Rose 71–64 Wednesday night in Greenville, NC after trailing by 10 points and rallying at halftime with standout plays from Jamarion Washington (25 points) and Keyshawn Herring (22 points). - ➤ East Carolina defeated UTSA 88-72 on Wednesday night at Minges Coliseum. Jordan Riley led with 19 points while Isaiah Mbeng recorded a career-high 18 as ECU secured its first conference win this season. WITN
