COMMUNITY NEWS

  • NCDOT crews worked overnight to clear black ice on roads across eastern North Carolina this morning. Local officials advise drivers in Greenville and nearby areas to drive slowly + maintain a safe following distance until temperatures rise.  Public Radio East

CRIME NEWS

  • A state report showed that North Carolina schools experienced fewer reportable crimes for the 2024-2025 school year, with many counties recording minimal violent incidents and reduced controlled substance reports.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An outage along Dickinson Avenue is affecting 900 customers as the Greenville Utilities Commission said power will be restored in several hours. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the outage.  WITN
  • The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced that two Pitt County roads will close next week for bridge culvert replacements, with a section of Whichard Road near Sycamore Church Road closing on Feb. 9 (reopening Feb. 20) and a section of Black Jack Simpson Road closing on Feb. 10 (reopening Feb. 27); drivers should use alternate routes.  WITN

  • Riley's Army is hosting the Knockout Pediatric Cancer event in Greenville to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. The event will feature community activities and offer local residents a way to support young patients.  WITN

  • Greenville native Tommy Paul will lead the U.S. tennis team in a Davis Cup Qualifier this weekend in Tatabanya, Hungary. The 28-year-old (ranked 22nd by the ATP) will compete in a best-of-5 match series against Hungary on Saturday and Sunday.  WITN
