COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Greenville Church of God opened its Christmas tree lot Friday and is selling trees today from 4 to 9 p.m. to raise funds for a Backpack Program at Creekside Elementary (and support an orphanage in Cambodia) while offering hot chocolate and baseball autographs for extra holiday fun.  WITN
  • A local hospital held a turkey and lunch giveaway for Greenville residents on November 21 to provide a hearty meal for those in need—organizers said the event supported the community.  WITN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hyster-Yale announced it will cut 575 jobs globally, including over 100 in Pitt County, to lower its break-even point and set up for profitability when industrial volumes recover in mid-2026. This is the second year of workforce reductions in the area after 97 local jobs were cut last November.  WITN
  • A Pitt County Superior Court judge upheld the Greenville Board of Adjustment decision that lets RaceTrac build a gas station and convenience store adjacent to an enclave on N.C. 11 — the ruling paves the way for the company’s planned business expansion.  The Daily Reflector

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pitt County Schools is asking for a $5 million commitment from the county before starting negotiations to buy land for new schools—a district official said this week. The district also changed its volunteer screening process.  The Daily Reflector
  • Since 1980, ECU Ambassadors have supported students and the community at ECU with passion and leadership. This year they will continue helping students feel like they belong on campus.  The Daily Reflector

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission advises residents to den-proof their homes against bears by following BearWise tips — such as locking pet doors, sealing crawlspace vents, and removing food sources that attract bears — to prevent these animals from finding winter dens in structures and on properties. They recommend calling the Wildlife Helpline if a bear den is discovered for proper assistance.  WITN

  • Gov. Stein and First Lady Stein hosted Friendsgiving on November 21 at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base — they welcomed service members ahead of Thanksgiving.  WITN

  • Playoffs round 3 games concluded last night in Havelock-Croatan as teams posted final scores with Clayton scoring 47 points and Jacksonville 35. The scoreboard shows results that ranged from Bear Grass’ 6 points to James Kenan’s 54 — offering a clear view of the matchups.  WITN
