EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ ECU held its awards ceremony during International Education Week from Nov. 17—21 to honor students, faculty and staff for their work in international teaching, research and service—Chancellor Rogers presented awards as ECU's international enrollment grew by 48% over four years. - ➤ Greene County Schools has received a $42 million grant to build a new elementary school next to the intermediate school on Middle School Road, replacing the old West Greene Elementary that served the community since 1967. County officials say traffic studies will be done soon to address local concerns & to plan for a modern facility that will offer better learning spaces. WITN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Carolina Wildlife confirmed that a male white-tailed deer near the Pitt-Martin County line tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease earlier this month in Edgecombe County—making it the 35th positive case since the disease first appeared in 2022. Hunting rules will remain unchanged this year while officials follow their CWD Response Plan—any adjustments will apply for the 2026-2027 season. WITN

- ➤ Although SNAP benefits have been restored after Congress ended the government shutdown, the Pitt County Department of Social Services is still giving out donated food to families. The service will continue to support local residents in need. The Daily Reflector
